Today in class we learned about European Imperialism and the European Scramble for Africa. What we first did in class was that we went over the notes we had taken on African slave trade useing the sites on the moodle. We went over how it began, and how horribly they were treated. We went over the Middle Passage, which was the trip in which they croseed the Atlantic ocean on a boat from Africa to America. The slaves were lined up in rows and chained down. Because of lack of food and water, many of these slaves had succumbed to diseases and illnesses. Whoever was deemed unfit for labor was tossed into the ocean.
Later in class we learnt about European Imperialism. In about the 1800's, it had begun a new era in which Europeans imperialized all (or the majority) of Africa. This was called the European scramble for Africa. We then learnt what Imperialism meant, which is A stronger colony or county dominates/conqures a weaker country. The reasons could be for labor, resources, or simply bragging rights. In order to better understand this, we played a game kindof like Risk except with a diffrent spin on it and without the board. Each group had 7 areas of land, and they had to challenge another group to any kindof competion (singoff, dance off, tic tac toe, etc.) and whoever wins, that group gets to take any piece of land from the loosing team. Whichever group has the most land wins. This represents Imperialism because the stronger group overtakes the weaker group because the won.
After the game we worked on a worksheet called the European Imperialism of Africa. We looked at a map and answered questions based on it and Imperialism.

Today in class we went over three maps of Africa showing different territory borders with different years. We also went over the negative and positive affects of colonization in Africa on the paper we started yesterday. Also, we took notes on the Berlin Conference. Homework tonight is to write six traditional characteristics of the tribe you picked and six characteristics of the European influence on the tribe.
